Butterfly Effect
I believe leadership is an inborn quality which life itself demands of us to harness. It is something innate in all of us but the choice to utilize it lies always, and only, in us.
I have witnessed a lot of ridiculous forms of leadership in my years as a student and citizen of my country. I have seen first hand negligence, incompetence, corruption and inappropriate behavior from people I thought quite highly of. This is what centuries of colonization can do to a country and its people.
Rubbish.
But then again, inasmuch as these unnecessary circumstances causes us pain in the neck, it also becomes an avenue to challenge ourselves even more. This is what I call the butterfly effect -and no, I am not referring to the movie.
A buttefly starts from being a caterpillar before pupating and eventually metamorphosize into the glorious creature that it is. The challenge of the Butterfly as a caterpillar then as a Pupa is just as complicated as our lives as humans. The caterpillar molts (loses its skin) a thousand times before resting itself as a Pupa. The same way we undergo just as much 'change' within ourselves and most of the time, we never feel like we're ever good enough.
As the caterpillar becomes a Pupa, it struggles to break free from its cocoon but this struggle is needed for it to get all the fluids and nutrients it'll need to able him to transcend into a butterfly. After it struggles to break forth and only once it's fully ready, a magnificent buttefly emerges ever ready to take flight into the air of uncertainty.
Life keeps surprising us with challenges which are bound to either make or break your confidence and it you will have to decide which cluster of people you belong to.
I had an amazing night with some very passionate AIESEC Alumnis (2 of which were MCPs) yesterday, it only inspired me to soar further. Further with my plans with my LC and with my future in general. I have set yet another goal for myself in the course of that 5 hour dinner-turned-karaoke-night, to make sure I'll become an Alumna who can inspire (future) newbies the way those ladies moved me yesterday.
Tough act to follow but who knows, someone might even write about me :-)

You assume that only a small and limited set of factors at crucial times influence your life trajectory.
I think that the history of one's life trajectory up until the point of change influences the degree to which your cocoon CAN be changed by small and limited sets of factors.
For instance, if your cocoon is buffered by a hollywood mansion, then the chances of some small factor, say a health problem or a personal tragedy, are small.
People born into and living within tragedy are much more likely to have their cocoons smashed by the smallest of things.
GWiMMRN.
True, all true.
However, you have to realize that I am speaking solely for myself based on personal accounts. I have had my cocoon crushed, smashed, torn and burned but I survived. Because I knew I had to if I wanted experience my first flight. It hasn't been easy but i'm getting there.
I personally think how one's trajectory is impacted by a lot of other things which can only be relative to each person.
I however do not believe that anyone should think they are without grace because somewhere in the world is another soul sufferig more than him.. And acknowledging this fact in my opinion, is by far the best form of metamorphosis we can ever dream of partaking into in this life.
I agree. Everyone is carrying around a bag. There are different items inside, but they all weigh the same. The only difference is a person's ability to carry the shifting weight.
Couldn't have said that any better myself.. Life's adversities, I believe, only exists to challenge, educate, inspire, and spark that needed change in us.
And I believe that we are never given problems we can not carry.
